Exploring Horizons: High School Adventures on College Tours
With curious eyes and hearts filled with excitement, High school students were about to embark on a week-long college tour to some of the most prestigious institutions in the northeastern United States.
Their first destination was Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU), a historically Black college in Tallahassee. As the bus rolled onto the picturesque campus, the vibrant atmosphere immediately took in the students. They attended an informative presentation about FAMU’s rich history, academic programs, and campus life, leaving them inspired and in awe of the possibilities that awaited them.
Next up on the itinerary was the University of Central Florida (UCF), nestled in the bustling city of Orlando. The sprawling campus and diverse student body amazed the High schoolers, giving them a glimpse of the dynamic college experience ahead. They engaged in lively discussions with UCF students who shared their experiences, motivating them to pursue their passions.
From Atlanta, the journey continued to Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The lush greenery and stunning architecture captured the imagination of the young explorers. Attending a thought-provoking seminar on leadership and personal development, they gained insights into the importance of character and integrity in shaping successful futures.
The final stop of their odyssey was Howard University, a historically Black institution in Washington, D.C. This iconic university left an indelible impression on the students as they soaked in the history and legacy of this esteemed establishment. Engaging with Howard students, they learned about the university’s commitment to social justice and the empowerment of marginalized communities, inspiring them to be agents of positive change in their lives.
Throughout the journey, DG41 ensured that students were exposed to the academic aspects of college life and the broader cultural and social dimensions. They explored the cities, visited museums, and experienced local cuisines, enhancing their understanding of the diverse world that awaited them beyond High school.
The High schoolers were excited and determined as the college tour concluded and the bus returned to their small town. Their perspectives had shifted, and they now saw many possibilities for their futures.
