Robotics for 2023-2024
Greetings! Thank you for your interest in the Do Good 41 Robotics Team. We are planning on a full season of competitive robotics for the 2023-2024 school year.
Applications and Tryouts have concluded for this year. Congratulations to all the students chosen for the 2023-2024 team.
Practices begin Tuesday, October 10, 2023
Practices are every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm in Room M12
What is Robotics?
In the VEX Robotics Competition, teams of students are tasked with designing and building a robot to compete against other teams from around the world in a game-based engineering challenge. Classroom STEM concepts are put to the test on the playing field as students learn lifelong skills in teamwork, leadership, communications, and more. Tournaments are held at the regional, state, and national levels; local champions go on to compete against the best in the world at the VEX Robotics World Championship in Dallas, Texas in May!
Important Things to Know About the Program
The Do Good 41 Robotics team is a competition-based extracurricular activity. Students will work in small teams to design, build and program a robot using the VEX Robotics platform to compete in tournaments against other high school teams. Robotics is a sport for the mind; it blends applied physics, mathematics, programming, prototyping and design, integrated problem solving, teamwork and leadership. Students who are successful in robotics must work well under pressure and work well with others.
Students may apply to the Robotics Team only at the beginning of the school year. As with any team, space and resources are extremely limited and the selection process is highly competitive due to the sheer number of students who wish to participate. It is our deep regret that we cannot accommodate all the students who wish to participate in Robotics.
The application is the first step in the process of becoming a member of the team. Online Applications are due by midnight on September 27, 2023 (the applications will be posted by Sep 7th). Tryouts will be held on September 29th from 4:30pm – 6pm in Room M12 to determine the final selection. We do not require any prior robotics knowledge but a willingness to learn. We invite all our prospective Robotics students and their parents to review the information below before they decide to apply for Robotics.
The Do Good 41 Robotics Team requires a serious commitment from its members. Our season runs from September through March. Students are expected to attend the majority of practices held two times per week on Tuesday and Thursdays, if you have a conflict with another activity, please speak with Mr. Joseph We have a large number of students who participate in sports and robotics, so it is possible to do both.
Teams advancing to the State Championship will continue meeting through March or advancing to the World Championships will have their season extended through May.
Practices: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30pm-6:00pm. Additional practices will be scheduled as needed.
Competitions: Saturdays from 7:30am-5pm. The competition schedule will be released in the fall.
Team members are required to be in attendance at the competitions, students/families are responsible for travel to and from all events and all food expenses. Bus transportation may be available to some of our competitions, depending on the location. Not every team will attend every competition; this determination will be made by the coaches based on the team’s progress and readiness.
Students should familiarize themselves with VEX Robotics and this year’s challenge,
